Microsoft recognized WolfePak in 2005 as one of the first companies in Texas to earn the Small Business Specialist recognition.
Charlie’s work experience includes working as a system analyst and programmer for independent data processing service bureaus, for the audit departments at Halliburton and Gearhart Industries, and as a controller for Russell Petroleum, a small independent with offices in Texas and Kansas.
In the middle 80’s, IBM started selling a little computer called a PC. Charlie recognized that these machines were more than mere toys and they had the potential to be a real business tool provided the software was there to make things work. In 1986, working as a hobby on a 2 floppy based system, Charlie developed his first General Ledger accounting program that had many of the same features found on the large mainframe systems of the times. Trying to keep books with the system himself, he went back to work on the system and soon came out with a 2nd version that was easier to use. Others saw how easy it was to use, and, through word of mouth, Wolfe started receiving a steady stream of phone calls from people wanting to buy the system.
In addition to running WolfePak with it’s 30 employees, Charlie is an active member of the school board, overseeing a 100+ million dollar budget. Charlie has also participated in various other community activities including the Mayor’s task force on technology, Leadership Abilene, Day Nursery of Abilene, Boy Scouts District Council board, Better Business Bureau board, and the Small Business Council of the Abilene Chamber. |
